Do you like my pictures?
Then you can take them home as a digital file that you have printed yourself. It's simple, cheaper than a finished print, and you'll have the picture within minutes. In this post I explain how it works, what to look out for when choosing and printing – and why it's worth buying directly from me rather than from a big platform.
What a digital download is?
You're not buying a printed picture, you're buying the high-resolution image file. After purchase you download it and have it printed wherever you like: at a photo lab, at the print shop around the corner, or at home if you have a good printer. No shipping, no waiting, no packaging.
Why buy directly from me?
Digital art is available on many large platforms. But buying directly from the artist makes a big difference in your favour.
*The file fits your wall
On platforms you get a file in a standard size, and that's it. With me, you can tell me how large you want to print . I set up the file for your format so the print comes out sharp and the framing is right. Just write to me – before or right after you buy – and tell me what you have in mind.
*You know who made the picture
I made every one of these pictures myself. If you want to know how one of them came about, what was on my mind while I was working on it, or which picture goes well with another: ask me. On a platform with thousands of anonymous sellers you won't get that answer. From me, you get a personal reply.
*The money reaches me
Large platforms keep part of the price as a fee. When you buy directly from my shop, your money goes to me – and straight into the next works.
*Questions and wishes have an address
Does the colour not quite suit your room? Would you like a motif as a set with two others? Do you need the picture in landscape rather than portrait format? Get in touch. Not everything is possible, but a lot is. You get an honest answer instead of a support ticket.
Which picture suits you?
A few thoughts to help you choose:
• Your feeling comes first. Choose a picture that makes you stop and look – not the one that best matches the colour of your sofa. You'll be looking at it every day.
• Colours. Look at the colours of the picture next to your wall and your furniture. A room with lots of strong colours can take a calmer picture; a more restrained room can handle a colourful one.
• Size. Measure the wall. A single picture looks best when it takes up about two thirds of the width of the piece of furniture below it. Smaller formats work well hung together as a group.
• Format. Portrait, landscape or square? Tell me what you need and I'll set up the file accordingly.
How to get a good print?
• Have it printed professionally. A photo lab or print shop delivers noticeably better colours and durability than a home printer.
• Paper. Ask for matte or satin fine-art paper or photo paper, at least 200 g/m². Thin copy paper turns any picture into a poster.
• Colour differences. Every screen shows colours slightly differently, and so does every printer. Small differences between the picture on screen and the print are normal and can't be completely avoided, even at professional print shops.
• Frame. A frame with a mount gives the picture calm and protects it. A frame without glass feels more direct. Both are right. It depends on the room and your taste.
What you may do with the file – and what you may not
With your purchase you receive the right to print the picture for your own private use and hang it up. You may not pass on the file, sell it, post it online or use it for commercial purposes. The copyright remains with me. If you'd like to use the picture for business purposes, for example in a practice or a shop, talk to me – we'll find a solution.
How the purchase works
• Choose a picture in the shop and buy it.
• You receive the file as a download in PNG format, 3500 × 5000 pixels – enough for a beautiful print up to A3 size. For larger formats, I'll prepare a file that fits your size.
• If you need a specific print format, send me a short message – I'll adapt the file free of charge. Please allow me 24 hours for this.
• Have it printed, frame it, hang it up.
